Yesterday?
I learned how to kill a rattlesnake.
You may be wondering what that has to to with this song.
All of my life, I've had the blessing of angels watching over me. This isn't to say that life's been all good. There have been some really tragic things that have happened to me and my family. It's just that somehow the kindness of these angels have helped my family and me survive.
Then yesterday they kept us safe.
I don't know how to explain it. I really don't.
It's just that yesterday?
I listened to the angels who've been guarding my son and me our whole life.
I listened to that voice that whispered in my heart, "Take your son with you when you clean the dog pens.
So I did.
I listened to that voice when it whispered, "Don't let the dogs out of their pens."
So I didn't.
I listened to my son when he said, "Mom, is that a rattle?"
It was.
I listened to my pups when even after we'd decided that the snake had gone, they kept barking the alarm.
That snake was still there not four feet from us.
I listened to my neighbor when he said, "Stop. Don't go any closer."
If I'd not listened, it would have been a catastrophe.
The rattlesnake in the wood pile might have been missed until it was too late. The one not 8 feet from my pups. The one that would have surely bit my pups if they'd been let out of the kennels. The one that would have surely bitten my son or myself had we gone one step closer.
I listened when that whispered voice, who has guided me my whole life said,
"Listen."
I read that you should start each day saying what you're thankful for.
This morning? I'm thankful that my neighbor happened to pass by just as we were going to find that snake and I'm thankful that I listened to that whispered "inner voice" who guided us and kept us all safe.
"I believe their are angels among us..."

Howdy
.
I keep having people tell me that they've got money or that someone I've crossed paths with has or in this economy had money and then they look at me kind of funny as if to see what my reaction is.
For the record (and because this is kind of one of those silly games that really wastes all of our time), I'm glad when folks are doin' good. So good for you rich folks. The thing is I'm really kind of busy at the moment and most of the people I'm hearing about probably are too. Good for us both.
I've been outside some and have met a new person or two. The weather is changing and we're finally getting some rain. We need it. The rain was so heavy and the trees were already changing because of the lack of water (we think) that there are now alot of leaves on the ground. Looks like Fall. Green house should be going up. It's early but I think I'll go ahead and begin weathering in the dogs too. I'm not going to miss the heat but I'm going to miss the 5am sunrises. It's alot easier to get up. This cool weather/late sunrises makes a person want to sleep in.
Ah and then there's the mid term elections coming up. All that nervous anticipation and speculation. I don't want to even hear about it. And yeah, I do vote. I'm just tired of hearing about these people.
I sure wish this was the old blog. There's alot happening here. Turns out we were correct in our presumptions. To every thing there is a season. We're prepared but it would just take waaay to much back story to explain why that's important. I am glad that I have the boat. Glad that Pup and WB are here. The dogs are doin' okay and so is most of the other living things here. LOL I swear that after today, I really do feel a bit like we live in the middle of a zoo. At least we've still got all our fingers and toes.
.
Hope you are doing well Gentle Reader. I don't have a clue who you are. If you'd post that would be nice.

For the record.

I don't really write on this blog. I really don't. It's not even a journal. It's more of a distraction. A "to do" list of sorts. Sorry that it's not more but life outside is calling.
ahh woooooo
Not to worry. If there's an actual plot point?
I'll let you know.
LOL
hugs.
to do?
Raising Hope and Wilde? Pretty good.

Letters to Pup
.
I'm going to try one more time.
.
How do I explain this.
Complicated lives?
Seems simplistic.
Once I wrote about memory like snapshots. When I asked a complete stranger (in a conversation) what her earliest memory was? She told me. When I asked another they told me too.
Some of the memories were like a video. They had movement and even if it was only a short, fragmented one? They had a story.
Others?
Were only a photograph. Clear or out of focus.
I wonder?
People sometimes say that the truth is in "...black and white..." when they mean that it's clear and without embelishment.
Thing is, even black and white photos can be in soft focus and like a dreamed memory.

Dear Pup,
Because of you I became at once fierce and calm.
They thought you'd get here before the doctor got did. The night before you're father and I drove like very careful maniacs trying our best to get back to the hospital. The day before we had to talk like it was the most rational decision to go home and feed Smokie. We weren't stupid. We could here the doc saying that you'd come pretty quick. I don't know why but we knew it would be okay.
You're like the eye of a huricane sometimes. Calm in the middle of the storm.
LOL I think that your dad was in a panic by the time we got there. What were we thinking? 70 miles to the doctor. 70 miles back to get Smokie. Then 70 miles back in a race to get back to the hospital before you came out. I can remember telling the receptionist that I thought that I might be in labor but wasn't sure.
So calm.
All night I sat and talked to the delivery nurse. She told me about her life. There's calm in that. If you're troubles are too big? Go ask someone to tell you about their life. Find someone who might have sense or who'd survived their life's sorrows, and ask them to tell you about it. Make sure that it's someone who needs someone to listen. They'll be so glad and you might have a different perspective on your own troubles.
Don't forget to hug their neck too.
Love,
Mom
"It was hot and they were sitting outside of the fast food place. Tired. Dirty. The two of them. I asked them if they needed something to eat. I wasn't the best of people to them. When we went inside the manager tried to throw them out. One of the customers standing in line came to their rescue. There was almost a fight because they'd been inside already and been thrown out. We got the food and went back outside into the heat. Late summer. It was "gawdawful" hot.
That's when I saw the miracle of a hug. I just hugged the lady. She began to cry. Told me "Thank you." even after what had happened. People are inside little kids. They keep it safe inside them, sometimes behind vast walls and barbed wire. Safe that little flame of hope. The stuff you have when you are born.
Hope and the ability to love."

Dear Pup..
.
The things you think about when you are young? They aren't the same as when you grow old. Today we talked about your future. I so admire you tenacity. I love your strength. I talked and I talked trying to get you to say something. Your future. I want so bad for you to find something that makes you happy. Then I could use every bit of my strenght to help you get there.
I wrote 12 dogs as a way to find my future and make some sense of the past. I didn't plan to, I just leaped from that chair in the living room. I'd said the words, "I don't want to be anymore. Then I quickly changed my mind. Lucky me. Slowly I began to find that path you are looking for. It took me so long to do so and so much time wasted. That's why I'm so fierce now for you. Time. You think when you are young you have so much. You do.
If for some terrible reason we loose each other, you can always find me in that maze, 12 dogs and a blot. You're smart. You'll find a time when you need a distraction and you are looking for a shoulder to lean on. For an ephemeral moment you'll find this home within me to find comfort. It's a puzzle. There will be times when you will curse me for that.
But
In the struggle to put 12 dogs back together? You will find me. You will find the peace that you need. I want to be there too.
It's not my job.
It's who I am.
I love you.
I always will.
You've become not only my son but you've become my friend.
Hugs,
Mom
When you were two, I gave you a book. Winnie the Pooh. It's inscribed. I meant it then and I mean it now.
You really are a good story.
Best memory? The day you read all by yourself.
The proudest accomplishment? Teaching you how to read.
The best advice?
Honey, sometimes you just have to slog through and count your blessings no matter how small they might seem at the time. A bad day is just that. One day. There'll be a good next day. Remember that.
Wait one more day.
Count to 10.
Go for a 15 minute walk.
Say you're sorry.
If you love them and you get so upset you want to let go of their hand? Ask why.
A good nights sleep is a blessing.
You'll do just fine.
All words fail?
Hugs will be enough.
You are such a person. :D

Why?
.
You know, once upon a time I wrote parody about political stuff on my little blog on the prairie. LOL
Uh yeah about that question, "Why?"
Because she's running for office and it's a clip.
For me it's like seeing a quote with elipses (...), there are a few important word that might have been left out. Like the imfamous words of Bill Clinton where he said that he "...did not have sex with..."
I can understand Ms. ODonnell's reluctance about appearing on Bill Maher's show. This close to the elections it could be damaging to her campaign. Sound bites can be brutal to a politician. This would be quite the mine field. If you don't believe me? Ask the good doctor/ex governor of Vermont or the Rep from Ohio. One missplaced "whoop" or ironic comment and your dreams of being elected are over.
However --
I don't understand the Tea Party, Republican, and Sarah Palin's support if this is indeed an issue for them. They certainly have no problem expressing their disagreements on issues they're unhappy with. Were there no other candidates to support? Did they forgive Ms ODonnel's past? Does this mean they're going to forgive Bill Clinton's (not) inhaling pot?
This isn't about my personal opinion on Ms. ODonnel's views, past or present.
It's about being able to find the information as to what this woman says she thinks and its validity. I agree with Bill Maher asking her to come back on his show. He's asking for clarification and he's in a good position to do so since it was on his show that these comments were made. So much of what we hear about a candidate is filtered by political bias and then we're asked to vote on this candidate. This year with the "Anyone's better than the incumbent" attitude, I'm worried that we will be "throwing the baby out with the bath water" by just voting for anyone new.
But at the same time, this is politics. A game of power. She's beat out the Republican candidate as we'll as being in a possition to beat the Democrat too.
Anyway here's one of the clips in question.
From Bill Maher's show.
Hugs,
Ann

If you're here? Where am I?
.
Well it's been a long time.
In celebration of the fact that there's a Big Bang Theory marathon tonight and Season 4 starts next week. Plus one of my very favorite late night talk show hosts, the Scotish Conan guy :D, is going to be a part of the lauch of Season 4.
To say I'm happy is just about as big an understatement as I can make at this moment.
Anyway.
I thought I'd try an Interactive Blog Bedtime story.
It's not finished. Matter of fact it won't be until next week but well if you can begin to figure out the story line and the logic? Good for you. I'd be careful. The logic flow depends on those blue links. It's my blog. I can change it.
Before we go a step further.
Remember.
This is 12 dots and a blot.
Like my old ebay blog, 12 dogs and a blog?
It's a writer's journal.
Fact and fiction co exist here.
If you don't know which is which?
Do NOT ASSume.
Ask.
Hugs.

PS Hopefully I'll have the blue link thingys working by next week

This is the last time I do an Interactive Blog Story without some sort of flow chart.
At the very least a storyboard.
I got lost.
I did get lost. That's the wrong link.
Should be this one.

Whoo hoo, Master Chef!.... (those mean people at TWoP)
.
Hurray.
We've found the first guest for The New Late Late Show with Kristen.
Whitney wins the first Master Chef!
Sorry that I didn't write about this last night but we were watching the Big Brother finally so I didn't find out until today @ lunch.
LOL we knew this was going to happen when she won the competition for the best souffle.
Incase you missed it, the guy who lost made twice as many in the same amount time. Judges comments? His were fantastic. One of them even offered the guy a job.
In the real world you'd call this guy a Master Chef but in Ramsey World?
Well you can never be sure.
(warning to diabetics, this interview may cause hyperglycemic episode.)
Where to next? Well this is a food post about eating?

Important vet type question....
,
.
(...kind of makes you itch don't it...)
Can your dog give you earmites?
My dog was scratching her ear because she had earmites.
Then she licked my ear.
Now my ear is iching.
Did she give me earmites and can I use the same OTC medcation we used on her to get rid of them.
I'd ask my vet but the last time I asked this kind of thing the receptionist told me they weren't people doctors. So maybe if you called your vet with this "hypothetically..." question? The'd give you the answer.
This is a serious question.
I'm not kidding.
....
Which I guess brings us back to http://12dotsandablot.blogspot.com/2010/09/sex-and-candy-johnny-lydon-on-tomorrow.html
LOL.
Next?

Serious dog question TNLLSwithK.

I was watching videos this morning (see the next post) and got to wondering what would have happened if the lady guitarist in this video had (accidentally of course) sat in an antbed?
I'm bored. It happens.

The NEW Late Late Show with Kristin
.
Ah no hang on, that's not Kristen. That's Tom Snyder interviewing John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten (1980).
Dunno' maybe this is the one:
LOL. Nope. That would be Craig Ferguson's interview with Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show. Okay I think I finally found a The Late late Show with Kristen.
The point?
I love cute cuddly things; Sid the Bunny, that cat on the WDWLATSTMC bumper, Zombies. I loved Mr. Rogers and his neigborhood. I really truly do but...
Honestly?
I want to hear the interview.
I loved the LLS with Craig Ferguson when it could talk about Johnny Rotten and the Canterbury Tales in the same monologue. Sure sometimes the references go under appreciated. That was the fun of it. I loved hearing an actress talk about Russian authors with Craig and never mention the latest movie she was in. On everyother interview show she was going to say the same thing but on Craig's show she was going to talk literature because she could. That was the great thing about the show. All those "off the path conversations".
The viewers loved it and were loyal because of it.
It was our little late night secret.
Where's the Pulitzer Prize winning author/journalist from Ohio. It's coming up on the Mid term elections. Some of those 16-18 year olds have a brain and love politics.
Please.
.
Now you might be wanting to ask, "Hang on. Is this about the quality of an interview or about the progression of John Lydon's life?" Well it's about the quality of the interview using the "scientific method". So all things being the same except the interviewer (kinda", this should be telling whether it's a good interview or not.
:D

OMG! The BEST Kristen Bell Interview on the LLS ever...
.
LOL I just love it when Kristen Bell is interviewed on the Late Late Show.
I know that she hasn't had a hit since Veronica Mars but I just think that she should be on the show every night.
The Late Late Show with Craig and Kristen.
LOL, yep.
Just like Regis and Kelly!
Woah! "Truth"
Every night they can talk about the day's events.
Kristen can talk about whatever it is she thinks about. Craig can listen to her talk and talk and talk and talk about the important stuff of life. Kind of like being married. One morning he'll come into the writer's meeting and he won't have any dialog to worry with. It will all be handled by "Kristen Lee".
LOL The spanish word of the day? Sabatical.
It'll be about the time that someone from CBS will come for a visit. They'll point to charts and demo numbers and say ( in a German accent ), "You know Craig. Maybe this would be a good time for you to take a break. Write that third book.
Don't worry.
Kristen can take care of everything."
(Do I hear a gasp and mellow dramatic church organ music?)
The show's got enought notice that there might be a (semi) huge bruhaha and pictures on US Weekly. Tabloid city.
Lots of free publicity.
Craig could get all mad and quit. There'd be shows with Kristen boohooing about the whole thing, more free publicity for the show, and finally the press conference announcing that there would be a format change at the LLS.
Kind of like divorce only with meaner lawyers. :D
They'd call the new show?
The Late Late Show with Kristen.
(Note: I wanted to say that they could call it The Late Late Show with tv's Kristen Bell but it didn't flow and well - I'm not sure if Mr. Ferguson's lawyers would approve. For legal reasons.)
Anyway, Mr. Ferguson can retire to his farm in Vermont and write that third book (which is hopefully a succes cause I doubt that he gets a "ConanO" settlement), and we , the long time viewers of The LLS , can watch The NEW Late Late Show with Kristen. We can watch her talk and talk and talk and talk and talk about whatever. Cause after all we don't care about what the host has to say. Uh uh.
We just care what they look like.
Maybe we could re enact whole episodes of Veronica Mars!
Yay! I heart charades! Crayons and ooloring books for everyone!!!
Skits with Kristen. Pillow fights!!
Sounds like a plan.
So come on LLS viewers. Fire up the "colortinis" and Tweets.
Demand The Kristen and Craig Show.
I for one would be highly entertained.
Happy, happy!

Thank you for the "I care."
Everyone needs to hear that now and again. For hope. Will try my best to pass the words on.
.
The song's old but the meaning is still relevant.
"Writers have a weird job description. You write like folks are going to read what you write. Even if they don't."
9/14/10
Why in the world would a person do that?
Because.
Writing is the thing I do. Even when it seems like no one is watching. Cliche' as it might sound, I love to see what the characters are going to do next. I can see them in my mind's eye. Sometimes they surprise me and go in directions that I didn't intend. Sometimes they're comfortable. Like a good friend, they are dependable. You know what's going to happen from the very first sentence. But it's good, because it gives comfort in a chaotic world.
Free entertainment, it's kept us occupied in all kinds of weather.
Hugs.
Come visit anytime.

It all started with a big bang -
.
OMG I <3 TBBT.
Honest.
In my dreams Sheldon realizes that there's a world outside of the physics lab and he dates -- Penny. Yeah, I said it. There's all kinds of comic drama as he and Leonard passively agressively battle it out for the neighbor next door. In a season cliff hanger they've thrown down the gauntlet in the middle of a paint ball fire fight. Slow motion as the overture from The Flying Dutchmen fills the air.
As the sound of horns and paintballs brings that heroic battle to life, Sheldon, suddenly stops - freezes - and in a moment that would make an romance novel model proud suddenly squints into the camera - and grows a pair.
"Victory will be mine." he says in slow motion speach as he leaps between Penny and an incoming paint ball.
But wait, just as Sheldon dives to save Penny, she turns to see Leonard lying on the ground. Pelted with paint he's unconscious due to a momentary klutz.
Realizing that Leonard's fall had prevented her from being painfully pelted by enemy paint pellets, a montage of season three Leonard magically appears.
She's torn.
Disolve back to Penny thinking. "Why oh why can't I be a "polygamist"?" she says and walks away.
(Yeah, I know it's cheesy but the song fits. Okay.)
Now where was I. Oh yeah -
What will she do?
Okay. I know that this probably isn't going to happnen but I really do love this show and well it's the one show in the whole entire universe that I honestly don't mind writing fan fan fic for.
Bazzzzzzziiiiinnnnnggggggaaaa.

Season 3 of The Big Bang Theory is out today on DVD. If you've never seen the show, watch Season 1 and 2 first.
Season 4 premires on Thursday, September 23rd, 8/7central on CBS.
Don't forget to read the creator comments at the very end.

Hmmm.
And yeah I really and truly love to watch this show.

Good morning.
,
So what did I miss.
September 11th.
I started to post something for the 11th. Instead we planted things here at the farm. I had a long talk with WB about it. I told him that the only whay that I knew to honor the folks killed that day was to do somthing possitive. So we bought plants and planted them. The saying is to "light a candle to curse the darkness." I'm thinking that nurturing something to bring and keep life going does the same.
So I'm back for a second. The last nine days have been spent on something approximating a vacation. WB and I got to spend some quality time together. Only one or two "fight" type things but mostly we ignored the to do list. Instead? I finally got to an art gallery and museum. We met a young lady that I hope has an art gallery in her future. Got the bad news that an excellent teacher has cancer. Very sad.
But for the first time after a vacation? I feel relaxed.
Happy.
I went to bed early and got up at the "crack of dawn".
Then we walked.
Turns out if I actually get some sleep? I'm a moring person sans coffee.
And according to the bathroom scales?
I lost weight.
That is good vacation.
Now you may be thinking, "But wait? What about Pup?" Well, he gave us a bit of time true but he also had the best idea of the time off. Zombie night. An idea that was sooooo good we decided to keep it. So now for as long as it's interesting? Saturday night is junk food and movie night. Next Saturday is "Night of the Living Dead" and Big Bang Theory, Season 3. (I hope.) Pup is delighted. So are we.
The irony is that I didn't set foot once on the boat.
That however is about to change big time because in addition to "movie and pizza night" ? The weather is finally cooking off. Which can only mean one thing, weekends will be including boat time.
Yay
Hurricane in the Atlantic. Already a Cat 5? Thoughts are with folks in it's path. Having lived in huricane prone areas all my life, I know that the waiting really is the hardest part. Get your emergency kit ready, put the water in the bathtub, and don't forget the batteries.
I love this song.
Incase I don't get back before, Sept. 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day. Aye.
Gotta go feed the dogs.

Second time round
.
The last time I wrote a blog like a job, I was told that unless I got paid for it? No matter how hard I worked or how good the words? I wasn't a writer unless I got paid. Everyday. Everyday I wrote. The view numbers went up and up and I wrote. When I pointed that out to WB he asked, "Did you get money?"
"No." I'd tell him.
"Well then you're not a writer." he tell me then off he'd go to do something "...important...".
I was exhausted with being told I was a failure. When the blog closed, WB celebrated. Not out loud mind you but loud enough.
I was once asked, "If you wrote but no one read? Would you still be making a sound?" I told them yes. Every world we say, even a note in a bottle thrown into the sea has the potential for being heard. There's always "hope".

"I don't want to - I don't know how to grow old.", I'd said it out loud. Hadn't meant to and didn't realize that I had but I did. Jack looked round so I know it was out loud.
"Well then don't. You don't have to."
He looked at me and then got up and left the room.
I've had this hard knot of inevitability in my stomach ever since. He didn't mean it like it sounds. Just like I didn't. We were both just thinking and the words came out into the world where folks could hear them.
It's a rough situation this. There aren't any rules or cheerfully helpful hints on how to do it well. Just the facts and a brutal silence.

Blog stupid...
.
Every once in a while it's a good idea to get your head out of your butt.
Look around and see what's going on in the world maybe?
I just did.
Yikes.
.
Help. I'm in danger of killing this blog due to much introspection.
Ironic isn't it. It actually put me to sleep and I wrote it.
Three blog posts ago I was commenting about how writing was supposed to entertain.
Could I be this boring?
I think it's lack of sex.
Alot of lack of sex.
10 years a lack of sex.
This is now unhealthy and I'm in danger of growing an old, musty vagina.
What if it shrivels up due to lack of use.
I had an excellent first time. It was fantastic. But what if I really have been "re-virginated" due to lack of use. I was young. I could put my legs over my head. Lack of sleep wasn't an issue. What if this is some karmic payback for having a great time. Maybe I was supposed to have had a lousy first time and this is like a sexual "Jonah and the Whale" experience where God is saying, "Oh no you don't Missy. You're going to have that horrific "first time" like we planned for you. Non of that "whoop, whoop, yee haw" that you had before."
Not a good thing.
To make it worse, I watched a movie about being old this afternoon. In between "boohooing" it occured that I'm also really not sure about growing old. Do you have sex when you're old? I'm not sure I want to know this. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine. Fantasy. About sex. Say when I'm in my 60's and it scared me. I now know why old guys marry young women.
(and now I'm distracted by the idea)
I'm sorry but this isn't a good thing.
It's like imagining your grandma and grandpa having sex.
I have had sex on the back of a car. I danced naked in the middle of the road afterwards. I did have my tennis shoes and socks on but every thing else was "nekkid". It was raining. I remember looking up at the sky. Dark. The rain is coming down.
It was fantastic.
I had sex all weekend long.
I had sex in every room in the house and the back yard during daylight.
What happens now?
I don't want to go out with someone younger. It's not the same as for a guy. I don't think that guys worry about sagging things. They just seem to be in some kind of delutional happy place where they're sex gods. It's Viagra's fault. Have you ever seen a Viagra erection? I did once. I was scared to get anywhere near it because it looked like it might break off. God, I'm sorry but it scared the hell out of me.
I was celibate as a kind of protest against my situation but what happens if that was it. That brief moment of sexual abandon gone? Oh heck no.
I don't drink. To have sex again? I'll have to get so drunk that I'm about to pass out. No, it's not like riding a bicycle. My bicycle doesn't care if I can put my legs over some guy's shoulders. It doesn't care what my post pregnancy boobs look like. I don't want to be seduced. I don't want to be raped. I don't want to be drunk. Is there anyone on this planet who could even begin to be understanding of this. I know for a fact I can have sex with my clothes on but who the heck would want to.
Unless it were in an elevator.
What if it's not my writing that's boring. What if it's my life that's boring?
Ah f8ck.
I don't want to grow old like this.
I'm sorry but being celibate s*cks.
If this is the future? How did I get here and how do I get out?
Not a Mid-life crisis.

The pitter patter of little ant feet.
.
I had a writing friend. Once. The right person at the right time.
Then?
They vanished.
I miss my writing buddy.
If they were here?
I'd ask them this question.
Because - tonight?
I'm on my knees looking for answers.
.
"Wave goodbye.
Wish me well."
But don't let go.
.
I've met people who don't look much past their next step.
They honestly don't care. Their curiosity is miniscule.
My pups have more interest in the nature of this world.
.
The sound of ants on aluminum foil is like the sound of a rain shower on a tin roof.
Only quieter.
Tiny.
Which makes sense because an ant's foot is so very small compared to a raindrop.
But there are six of them so it's the sound of a rain shower on a tin roof.
Only quieter.
And with more pitter patters.
"The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.
It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow.
I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment."
I knew a fella who was so intent on making me see the reality of the world that he forgot that sometimes the real of the world is what we can only imagine.
Because well it couldn't be real if it weren't unhappy.
Good to know.

Good morning!
.
Hello.
I don't know if anyone actually reads my blog anymore. If you do? Hugs. Thank you. I really am glad that you are here.
(Would be nice if you'd comment. I'd like to hear what you have to say.)
Well this took a while to figure out.
For most of my life, "happy", my "happy", depended on my being with another person. That's not a bad thing. I like people. The problem is that inorder for them not to leave (taking my "happy" with them) I would just about twist myself into a pretzel to make them happy. Sometimes it was to my discomfort. If they did leave? Ouch. One day I woke up and didn't really have a clue who I was. So much time spent trying to craft my responses to please another. If you were to ask me what I thought or who I was? I would have to really think about it to give an answer. I realized that I'd surrounded myself with people who didn't care about what I thought. They just wanted me to care about what they thought. Don't get me wrong, I love to hear what others think. I learn from the experience. But this was different, they honestly only wanted me around to tell them how great they were. To make matters worse? They wanted me around to yell at and blame when things didn't go their way. They wanted me to be their "whipping boy".
That, Gentle Reader, is NOT good.
At first I put up with it. What if they left? I'd be ALONE!!! That seemed a horrible thing. What would I do? Then one day they did leave. I wasn't good enough so? They left leaving me in that dreaded "alone".
That's how I found out that there were worst things than being left "alone".
I'm finally understanding the term "personal growth". It doesn't mean being selfish. It means that there are things that I love to do. I found out that I have a "voice". Something worth listening to. I found out that the world is very big and the group of people that I'd been around was actually quite small. I began to have conversations again. We don't always agree but we still talk to each other. Slowly I'm leaving the people who spent a life time telling me that I was a failure. I'm meeting folks who are glad to hear what I have to say. I've stopped making "have to do" lists. I've stopped making personal decisions by committee vote. I've started waking up and saying, "Okay, what do I want to do to day?" not just "What do I have to do today?" I've tried it and believe it or not it's good. I'm growing happier by the day. I don't justify to those around me doing those little things (which are very legal and moral by the way) that make me happy.
I've learned to say, "I've can help? I will. BUT that is neither my fault nor is it my responsibility."
I've learned to say, "No."
It's a little weird. Kind of like a detox.
Does this mean I'll start changing how I write? Maybe but maybe not. A fella I met this weekend asked if I lived vicariously through my characters. Thought about it and honestly told him, "No. Not in the least." I write to tell a good story. Some of the characters are based on people I've known. Some of the stories are entirely fiction. Some of the characters I love dearly but some I really do not like at all. But like them or not, they're created by me to entertain. I want to write a good story.
Well it's finally September. The weather is still alittle on the hot side but not uncomfortable. The sky is blue. The birds are singing. And the sun is shining.
This month is going to be a busy one. Lots to do.
I'm glad to be alive and awake.
Hugs,
Ann

Because I can't write it often enough...

Welcome to 12 dots and a blot
A writer's journal.
Fact and fiction co-exist here.
If you don't know which is which?
Don't ASSume.
Ask
Now then what the heck?
I was in line at the grocery store and there were three different "magazines" with three different headlines about Prince William. Now normally, I don't really care about what's happening in Prince Williams life because- well- I don't know him so it's not really my business but in the interest of journalistic integrity?
Are they married or not?
Inquiring minds want to know.

When the people doing it stop giving a dam...
.
(very rough draft subject to edit)
Late night on Saturday is the best movie time ever.
(or when does a parody of a parody "go south"?)
What is the difference between Buccaroo Bonzi and Rocky Horror Picture Show?
What makes one Youtube funny and the other just stupid?
And why was Obama Girl such a power for good (or evil depending on how you vote?
------------------
I'm worried.
Every once in a while we talk about the difference between Buccaroo Bonzi and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. One was (and, I guess still is) a cult classic and the other wanted to be one.
I'm still worried.
There is a moment when you break through a sort of wall. Believe it or not we've all probably felt it. That moment when a disaster happens and we're dripping in dog poop. You could loose it and go insame or - ? You can let loose. Start laughing and making fun of it. Parody. Then you laugh some more. It might look like a person stops caring and I guess they do in a way. Only in this case you retain your humanity. You can look at yourself and laugh.
"I can't afford to have an ego."
I told that to someone a year ago last June. I'd just jumped in the water and infront of complete strangers who were incredibly fit just acted a fool. On the one hand, it was kind of like my job. Afterwards, I had to go for a walk/slash run to work off the humiliation of it. If it weren't for the payoff (sailing) I'd have never gone back. It's not easy being "cheesy" 365 days out of the year. In order to do good parody you have to take what you're doing seriously. You break through the wall of selfconsciousness. LOL I know it's sounds cliche but you really do seriously have to "be" the tree or the prat fall. If you're showing the humor in the human condition and want people to laugh at the situation and at themselves? You have to "be" them and love them for it. That way they can love themselves. Parody.
"I love you crazy kid walking around with the shoes on the wrong feet but proud because you did it yourself." Later you laugh about it. Not to make fun but because to laugh at yourself when you goof up is one of those skills you need to survive life on Earth. I used to do something for a lifing that I really didn't like at all. It was responsible, well paying, and hard to do. If I still did it I would be respected in the community and pretty well off. I was worried when I quit, that I would regret the decission. I didn't. Time off didn't change my dread of going back to work. It just reminded me that I wasn't in a situation that let me laugh.
That's why I'm worried. It's one thing to parody unhappy behavior, it's another thing when the dread of a situation makes you stop laughing. Things change. You can roll with it. Look at the situation and change it so that the laughing comes back. But if you can't use this as a catalyst to change? Maybe it's better that you do something else. I did. It's not been easy but it was definately for the best.
And I did find my happy.
I would miss TV's Craig Ferguson's show. It's one of the places where I found my laugh again but I'm told that it's no fun to watch someone who truly doesn't like their situation. So I'm hoping that if they can't innovate here? He'll do what he apparently always has done.
Open the door and find something new to do.
Cause folks it ain't easy being "cheesy".
.....
I'm an writer. It's in my "contract" that I might at some point write about falling on my ass or being covered in baby vomit. Now to some there's little or no humor in it but the reality is that situation can be the very essence of humor and being human. To laugh at the world and ourselves, to see the humor in the darkest of times, and to rise above it or sit there in the middle of it and laugh is the well spring of empathy. My dogs can't do that. As smart as they are they can't or won't sympathise with another dog who's had the same trouble in the pack as they have. We can because we can see the humor in this loco life.

One quiet night in August...
.
...or was it March? I can't remember. You could only hear bits of the melody coming through the woods. Same time every evening. Quiet. The sound of trucks on the highway. Then...
Bagpipes.
I started the truck that last evening. Determined to find out where it was coming from. All those bits and pieces of music floating.
So there I went. Slowly driving down the road, window open, and listening for the sound.
...
On the old blog I wrote about the time that the rainbow ended at the base of our pecan tree. It was late afternoon then as well. Everything was green from the rain and the heat. All the way home we watched as the rainbow shifted. Just out of reach. Then when we came to the house it stopped there at the bottom of our pecan tree.
We found gold there. A nest full of eggs. The shined gold in the afternoon sun.
...
I found the source of the bagpipes. The son of a neighbor who was learning to play. Each evening, after work, he'd go out in the back yard and play to the chickens in the yard.
Yeah, it's a goofy story. Boring to most folks. These people. The stories in this post came to mean alot to me. How often do you get to see the gold at the end of a rainbow? Or hear the magic of music coming through the trees from some leprechan's dance? There was real magic.
I am sorry not to be cynical this morning. It's just that for some reason I'm happy. When you've spent time not so happy, those happy moments are a treasure.
Like dancing in the kitchen barefoot. Moonlight coming through the bay window. Laughing but not too loud. So you don't wake anyone.
The harder you try not to make a sound the more you laugh. Until you just stop caring and start laughing out loud.
LOL
Nite. Got to get some sleep.

Psst, It's the last day of August 2010.
.
Yay.
The house is quiet except for Izzy who's snoring.
To celebrate surving August, a very hot month, a song:
Van Morrison.
Listen quick before they take it off Youtube.
I do not profit from this song in anyway. I'm just a Van Morrison fan and this song makes me "...wonderful happy..."
"When that fog horns blow, I have to hear it..."
Next?
Dunno.
I may be back tonight or not for a while. Not sure. There's things to do here and for some reason, for the first time in years, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Happy.
Which has to to be a good thing? Right?

Oh no, I am not going to lecture anyone today about their life choices. Yes - I - do know that the song is a lecture on appreciating what you have. It's not there to lecture. It's more a gentle nudge.
I'm liking planting things. There's something nice about watching a plant grow. And these are culinary herbs so they not only look nice but they're also useful. The aloe isn't doing so good. Went by one of the local nurseries to get advice on what I could do. "Too much water? Maybe? Or not enough sun? Perhaps..." I dunno. The person who gave the advice is nice and I'm going to try her suggestions. The Basil that I thought was going to die has leafed out.
You might be wondering what this has to do with the song?
I've been through some times and have made decissions for alot of reasons. Some of those reasons have been competitive. I wasn't going to give in. It's good to be determined. To hold tight to your possition on matters of this life. So I'm not going to lecture or advice anyone to give up what's important to them.
Weren't expecting that was ya'.
Hugs and because it does need to be said outloud and without missunderstanding,
"You are welcome here. Just mind you don't sit on the cat."
Ann
PS. As mentioned, I had a tooth misshap without any sympathy. Actually my tooth fell out. The entire thing. I've never seen anything quite like this but I will say that it stopped hurting as soon as it fell out. I'm grateful. Anyway I put it in milk and kept it in a bag to see if I needed it but so far I'm okay without.
This isn't exactly the way I thought my life would go though. Planting plants and watching for my tooth the fall out is different.
LOL, would someone cue up the Gloria Gaynor?

Dear Diary,
.
Today my tooth broke.
When I asked for sympathy and a hug? WB's reaction was, "Buck up. Get tough. Be a man."
LOL, I'm tough. I'm a female.
(which makes that "...Be a man." part a bit tricky.)
There is good news. While I was waiting up last night to see if I was going to have an allergic reaction to the ant that I may have eatten due to it being in the chips bag? It occured that if the tooth did break, the filling might be gold. According to the comercial, all I have to do is send the filling part to the Gold Exchange and "Cha-ching" - I hit pay dirt.
Now all I have to do is find the hammer.
.
Happy weekend.
BBL
Ann.
PS The video? Teeth.

Well it's the next day and I'm not swelled up.
That's the good news.

Hurray! I'm not going to die from an allergic insect bite!!!
.
I'm going to live!!!
No thanks to you Gentle Reader or to the people in my household. They're all snoring. No, I owe my survival to the Internet, infomercials and really bad re runs of Highway Patrol.
And Paul McCartney karoke.
You know, I'd really love to have a Wanda Bar right about now.
Like on Wanda Sykes' show.
I really would love to have a Wanda Bar.
(No that's not one of those double entand- auntandr -- one of those things that's supposed to have a double meaning...)
Where else can you have a serious disscussion about Stripper Olympics... I may not drink but watching other folks get loopy and talk about pole dancing?
It's good.
It's been 20 minutes and I haven't swelled up from ant bites.
Lord help me please not to dream about those ants dressed up like WHAM singing,
"Wake me up before you go-g0..."
Nite!

You can't make folks laugh all the time.
I know that there are people who make a living at making folks laugh but lets be real. They usually have a staff of writers who's entire job it is to write words to make folks laugh.
Even they have off days.
In the event that you want to make someone happy but nothing is working.
There's always sex.
Sex and Barry White.
Sex and Barry White and the Beatles...
It's usually good for a laugh here at Casa 12 dots.
Well that and a the notion of a Wanda Bar.

I think I just ate ants.
No, I'm not drunk.
Remember how I wrote that I munched on stuff when I was pre occupied and otherwise distracted? I woke up looking for crunch and there was this open bag of Sunchips on the counter and well-- I got a handful out of the bag. (Yeah. Like you've never) So I was crunching and felt this tickling feeling on my hand. Looked down and yikes -- ants. On my hand. So I looked inside the bag and
AAAAANNNNNNTTTTTSSSSS
Not lots and lots but there were one or two.
I'm not sure what happens if you eat an ant. I've been drinking milk and eatting bagels hoping that if there are any ants in my digestive tract they'll be washed away by the milk. To make me feel better someone just told me that we've all probably eatten a spider in our sleep. Then they told me (honest to Got) that if I ate healthy, got enough rest, and was careful any bites an ant bit on the way down should heal in no time. "Oh and that's why I turn on the kitchen lights when I eat." he tells me.
I'm really worried here. These ants that live around here are tough. I've seen them grab on and bite and bite and bite. What if it's tougher than my stomach acid. What if it's been grabbing hold of my esophogus with it's tough little ant feet. I feel something in my throat. What if it's that lone renegade ninja ant. Biting it's way out of my digestive track. Rambo of ants. That's if I'm lucky. I've got hemmoroids. I don't need any more irritations down there.
Anyway here I sit in the dark. Waiting to see if I have any kind of allergic reaction. There's no way I'm calling the emergency room or the 24 hour doctor about this. I'd rather sit here drinking Benadryl and wait it out than tell a receptionist, nurse, and then a doctor, "Well -- I woke up with a case of the munchies and there was this open bag of SunChips -- "
I'm not looking forward to going back to sleep. I'm worried that I'll start dreaming about ants dressed in white tshirts singing --

I've been thinking about Christmas this summer. It's been hot so the idea of anything cold is good. A diversion. This year is different. For the first time in years, I'm really looking forward to the holidays.

Sorry Sigmund. It's not all about the sex...
.
Last night I had a dream about my parents.
My mom comes down the hall to the conference room at work. There's nothing abnormal about it only she doesn't look anything like my mom.
"I -- your dad and I -- want to pay for a hotel room for you -- for Christmas. A present." It's sureal but then it's a dream so it's supposed to be. "Were going to be at your brothers and you know how you annoy him so we just thought that you'd be more comfortable at a hotel -- somewhere other than around your brother."
I'm looking at my dad. Magically he's sitting in a La-Z-Boy watching Fox News. There's a guy in a clown suit yelling. My dad's talking to his stock broker on the cell and saying that the clown on the tv yelling says to "Sell. Buy. Sell." So he's telling the stock broker to sell.
"We just think it's for the best." my mom is saying. She's watching my dad too.
That's when I woke up.
Mele Kalikimaka, imaginary not my mom. I know a great place in the BVI.

Got me thinking about potty training....
So to Mark Tweddle
Hello. I enjoy reading your blog. It's been a while since I've had to potty or house train but
Uhmm... well it's kind of like house training puppies only you can't do the rolled up newspaper thing to the nose nor can you let them out in the back yard at 6am in sleep deprived daze. The good news is that you can hose them off and let them run round in the backyard in a diaper.
Which brings me to this comment.
A friend took her very young son to his grandparents for the summer. The grandparents lived out in the country on a farm. Lots of land to run on and not much in the way of neighbors. He, the grandson, wasn't "housebroke" yet and this kind of annoyed her father-in-law-- alot.
Anyway...
The kid has a fun stay with Gampa and comes back to the suburbs with the words that Gampa has taken car of the potty training thing.
And he had. Regular as clock work the little boy would say, "I must go poopie." and he did. Then one day they were outside when the tyke goes behind the bushes. My friend is a country girl so that didn't seem unusual until her friend says to her, "Did you know that your son is running round without pants?"
In horror, as this is unusual even to a oountry girl, my friend collects up her son and his pants. She asks him, "Why on Earth did you take off your pants? Her son's reply? Because Gampa told me that if I had to potty and couldn't make it to the house I should find a bush and do it 'cause he wasn't about to change another poopy pants. Then he growled. "
My mother in law claimed that she'd potty trained all 5 of her kids by the time they were one and 1/2 yo. Like my own mother she said it was easy. Soon as the weather was warm enough to play outside, take off the diapers and put on the training pants. Not the pull ups either. Then? Get out the water hose and then plan on spending the most of your time outside for about two weeks. I'm not kidding. The theory is that it doesn't take too many messy pants episodes to find out that "ickypants" is just that - icky. The water hose, not for torture, is for easy clean up of the resulting accidental mess. That, apparently is why you potty train in the summer.
Good luck. Think of this period as training for the teenager years. Plus you're a guy raising a son. You can both go into the same rest room. Once after standing outside of a men's bathroom waiting for my preschooler son to emerge, I finally had to ask an older fella on the way in if he could check and see if my young son was okay. In a minute or two the older guy came out laughing and told me that my son was fine. From what he could tell, he was in one of the stall waiting to poop. No complications and he was pretty sure that if he couldn't get the door unbolted that there was room enough for him to climb under the stall door.
Joy.
LOL oh and there was the time in gymclass when one of the ladies hussled my son from one side of the gymnasium to otherside where I was sitting with the other moms.
"Is he okay?" I'm concerned because she looked so serious.
"He's okay but," she's whispering so I can't half hear her, "He's got an emergency."
"An emergency? I thought you said he was okay. What's the --" I'm really confused and now she was whispering something I couldn't understand, "Wha-?" I'm asking.
Then she said clear as day,
"He has to go to the potty."
LOL
.

LOL
