I was asking this lady in the parking lot...
"What would you think if your significant other gave you a treadmill for your anniversary?"
Her reaction was exactly like mine.
"They think you're fat."
Not the kind of romantic anniversary type reaction a person might be hoping for.
Sigh.
Okay.
Alittle help. I used to get hired as Cupid. It's been a while, but maybe this will help.
Step one.
Sit next to them on the couch.
Step two.
Hold their hand.
Step three.
Look at them and tell them that you think they are the most beautiful person you've ever seen.
Step four
They may think you've lost it. Tell them that it does feel abit weird but that you didn't want them to go another minute without knowing how much you love them. You may be clueless about some things but not about this.
Step five
Kiss them on the cheek. Anywhere else and they'll think you're horney and just making a pass. You might be but reign it in. This is about emotional stuff not hormones. At least not about your hormones.
Step six
Offer to rub their feet or take them out with their friends. This last bit is good. Be the designated guy and take their friends out on the town. Dance with them all fast but save the slow dancing for the person you love.
Step seven.
Almost at the end.
The next morning? Have flowers delivered and let them sleep in.
That's it for now.
Unless they asks you to, do not get them a treadmill.
If you want to show them you care about their health? Take them for a walk on the beach or send them to a spa.
Even the most independent person, appreciates a little tenderness.

Congratulations! You can marry your toaster...
I'm no expert on this stuff. There are social psychologists and religious folks who are all "experts" on this subject. They're busy yelling at each other that they're right and the opposition is wrong. I don't have tables and graphs and studies to illustrate my point. I certainly don't have the threats of eternal hell. It's just that I'm thinking that calling someone an abomination might be above most all of our paygrades.
But what do I know.
I was cleaning out a box of letters and photos when I came across a package of letters that were at least 17 years old. They were written by a friend who was living in New York. We'd been roommates before that. He'd shown me that a creative life wasn't just a hobby. You could actually do it for a living. A smart man, he saw the world as an interrelated dance.
Re-reading his letters gave my heart a tug. They were full of his anticipation and worry about someone he'd met. Someone who he said might be a person to live with. To love. There in his letters I watched as the relationship progressed from strangers who were curious into lovers. He was so happy. As long as I'd known him, he'd been looking for a committed relationship. He'd had flings but now he wanted a person to come home too. This person wasn't easy for him to find because of his life choices. He was dancing. When he wasn't dancing, he was working. He didn't earn much and most of it went for a roof over his head. Then he met this person and - well - he was happy. Here was a person he felt comfortable with. A hopeful match.
It made me smile to read the words again. He was happy.
And then he wasn't.
Apparently his friend's family didn't approve. The were very conservative and my friend wasn't worthy of their offspring. The next letters were sad. They talked about the unfair nature of what was happening. No matter how kind or how smart or how funny he was? It would never be good enough. The person who he loved just wasn't strong enough for the fight.
And he wasn't strong enough to come "out".
I was asked by a woman who was a lesbian, why (if I was a Christian) I didn't call her an abomination. Why did I call her friend instead. I told her it was simple. I didn't decide if she was going to Heaven or to Hell. That was, I believed, God's call not mine. But she was perhaps one of the best writer's I'd ever met. She liked what I wrote and I like what she wrote. Like my relationship with my New York friend, I became a better person and a better writer from having known her.
Listening to all the fuss about homosexuals marrying their toaster seems kind of strange and unrelated to my experience. I never, ever, met any of my friend's friends who were interested in marrying their kitchen appliances nor their dog. They were trying to find something real in this world.
Love.
Home.
Family.
Household appliances had nothing to do with it. To say anything different wouldn't be telling the truth.
They're voting (if they haven't already) on Kagan's nomination to the US Supreme Court. There's always alot of talk about judicial temperment. It makes sense to ask about her knowledge of Constitutional Law and her past rulings. This isn't just the job of a llifetime. Oh no, this is a life time job and she's young. If confirmed her words and judgement could resonate for decades. I'm glad that folks want to know what she knows about the law but me?
I want to know if she's a person.
I want to know how she will walk the line between the law and my friend's broken heart?
I'm thinking about all this because of tonight. LOL and because of an interview on "that little show in the middle of the night".. Don't know why but that man does get me to think- and to laugh.
Back later. Yard is looking better and better. Worth the effort.
Hugs,
AuthorAnn
It's dark.
"Love doesn't come with a contract..."
I'm sitting in the dark.
No, I'm not some creepy weird Internet stalker person. At least the folks I know don't think I am. If you were here you'd hear the sound of crunching. Or maybe munching. I'm eatting taco shells. I do that when I can't sleep and I'm worried.
I find something crunchy and I eat it.
Celery or taco shells, it has to have that cruchy sound thing or it's no go. At this moment there's a gallon of really good ice cream and chocolate sauce in the fridge but not interested. Nope. I'm eatting the taco shells and crunching.
In less than 24 hours I'll be in a restaurant looking cross the table at the longest "relationship" in my life. Next to my parents. We'll be on what should be a date type celebration. I've picked out what to wear and how my hair will look. The car is vacumed and the reservations were made two weeks ago. It's a nice restaurant. All organic and foody with a good wine list. I don't drink so the wine list is wasted on me but the food looks good.
Yet here I sit munching. It's a sign that something isn't right. I should be happy and I"m not.
..........
Treadmills and romance.
I was watching the LLS, when the subject of treadmills as an anniversary gift came up. Romance is such a tricky thing. I wrote about it. About how Valentine's Day doesn't have to be roses. Sometimes it a cactus. Alot of romance is expectation or maybe it's surprise. Dunno. I do know that it has to do with the person. A treadmill could be a very romantic gift or it could be a disaster even for the most pragmatic of person. I honestly don't know. If you look in my jewelry box there's a pair of earrings that I got for Christmas. It was a gift that was chosen with care from a person who was trying their best to give a lovely surprise. I still haven't worn them. They're beautiful but honestly I don't know this woman who is supposed to wear them. While the jewelry I wear is simple these earrings are not. So there they sit. Unworn. Waiting for the imaginary woman that they were bought for.
Sad.
.......
I really and truly want to laugh for my anniversary. And a hug. I'd like a hug for my anniversary. And to have my car detailed. Or a new forestay for the boat. Not earrings or this dinner out. That would be romantic.
You see romance isn't about the cost of the gift it's about the thought.
Paying attention.
This dinner is my idea but I don't think that I've been paying attention.
Neither have they.
That's why I'm up and crunching tacos. I'm very worried that neither of us have been paying attention and we're about to give each other "treadmills".
Very expensive treadmills.
This world is so complicated, if you aren't paying attention even roses can end up looking like a 'treadmill" on the heart.
I'm really worried.
..
..
It should be simple.
But for me?
It's as complicated as trying to stand up right after life's spun you around so fast and hard that just standing still is mystery.
What I do know:
I love God.
I love my son.
I love my pups,
I love my sailboat,
I love my truck,
I love to listen to country music,
I love sitting in the yard after working in it,
I love being on the hammock looking up at the trees at night, in the summer when it's cooler and everything is crickets and tree frogs,
(as crazy as it is) I love to watch that little show in the middle of the night,
and I love?
in moderation of course. LOL
It's hard to explain but that's really where I'd like to celebrate.
On the water with someone who thinks that's a really good idea.
But not in a hurricane or a flood. Just sayin'...

Happy Birthday to President Obama.

The Political Season
It's 2010 and constiuents are unhappy...
People can be such cynics...
written on
this day
"Well -- when we did it?
It was a three ringed circus...
and I was the overweight, wanna be trapeze artist who sang Socretes..."
I want to remember this video. It's a good idea. Each of the parts in the song, Tower of Babel was a real philosopher; they where archetypes of their philosophical view. This takes that notion a bit futher and tries ( I guess) to make the architypes of these philosophies into stereotypes of regular people.
The video was incorporated into a production of Godspell.
I'd love to try and redo this idea. Just tweek it. I'd like to see WHO protesters, the "supermom" morphing into different settings. The man/woman business people at the negociating across the board room table, maybe lawyers arguing in the USSupreme Court, maybe a point counter point on a FOX or CNN news show, or screen shots of Twitter arguments back and forth. Much more contrast and pushing the architypes to their extreme. They are so wildly different. All speaking English but talking different "languages". It's that sharp contrast that shows the world's "Tower of Bable" existance. Then at the end, the same people watching these architypes on a video screen or sat TV. They'd question who they are in relation to all the "babel" that they are hearing and seeing. They'd mute it. Rewind. Catch it on TIVO. Trying to make sure they heard it correctly while they sing the final characters part.
"Who am I?"
What with the "conversations" you can have on Twitter. The ones where the idea is to throw thoughts out there and be heard but not hear back?
No dialog. Just "Kilroy was here." Now trending...
Sigh,
back to cleaning flower beds...

Wise words...
When you're walking down the "catwalk of life" in D & G sparkly underpants?
And you fall?
Get back up and strut it.
It's been a while...
The high light of this week was taking stuff to the dump -- uh sanitary landfill -- with someone I've known longer than anyone (other than parents).
That and surviving race duty and yard work in 100 degree heat.
The yard looks great but between you and me?
I wouldn't mind having my fancy underpants back.

Good morning.
Sigh, I'm just not interested in staying up late and then getting up early. I have stuff to do outside. It gets hot by 10. The earlier I get up the more time I have to work before the heat becomes an issue. Now they're talking about rain on the radio.
LOL, if you came here to read the latest poem or story?
You might be disappointed in this post.
But then again if you think on it? Most of what I write is about people and some have their origins in people who I know...
So maybe this little bit of banal domestic sunshine could be the story today.
It's worth a try.
Hugs,
I've gotta go prune and weed eat before it gets so terribly hot.
Then? I'm gonna take a nap.

PS This is to let you know that if you read anything that I wrote on eBay over on Face4book? And they didn't cite that I wrote it?
They're an ass hole, "writing" poacher who can't be bothered to write their own stuff and have instead ripped me off.
I'm not happy about this at all.
And I don't have a FB account that I post on.

(If you've come from Twitter? I'm not spamming. Honest. Only post on my Twitter account and to ask if it's okay to post it on another account.)
Now then, the point of this blog post.
...Tonight...Tonight...Tonight....
The Concert for the Gulf Coast will finally happen. It was supposed to have been earlier but a hurricane threatened the coast (again) so they put it off until July 11.
I know that I'm a bit biased here when I tell you that the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico are some of the most beautiful in the world. The water is warm and the sand beaches are fine. Yeah it's abit crazy but it's the good kind of crazy.
Jimmy Buffett's Concert for the Gulf Coast ... July 11, 2010 ... Live on CMT (on cable) or on CMT's website. Or for the lucky 35,ooo ticket holders ... live @ Gulf Shores, Alabama ...
Hugs and prayers for a great day, good weather, and a great concert...

Because it's my job...
Oh mercy,
All the gnashing of teeth over the US Supreme Court nominee hearings.
It's their job people.
It's the job of the US Senators to try very hard to rattle the cages of the nominee.
This nominee (if chosen) will have the job as long as they chose to do it. They're the gate keepers of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The irony here is that US Supreme Court justices are notorious for rattling the cages of lawyers.
It's their job.
Calm down.
It's a process that's been happening for a long time now. If Judge Kagan is up to the challenge she'll rattle right back.
After all.
If she becomes a Justice?
She'll be rattling cages all her own.
"It's an imperfect process in an imperfect world."
AuthorAnn, 7/10/10
Oh and since when has a proper rebutal been, "Yeah and your mama's ugly and people from your state are stupid."
Honestly?
"...
don't try to explain it
just nod your head
breath in, breath out,
move on
..." (Jimmy Buffet)
It'll work out one way or the other.
Well tomorrow night is the big concert for the Gulf. It's down in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
If you can't be there in person? I think that it's broadcast on CMT.
No, I don't know the time. You'll have to look it up but I do know it's July 11th.
Good luck, fine weather, and lots of good, happy, and (safe) clean Gulf Coastal fun for Mr. Buffet and all the folks who get to attend.
Happy day and good reading.

Stupid in Alabama
I know for a fact that Alabamiams are more than just US Senate subcommitee hearings for SCotUS nominees.
Folks aren't stupid in Alabama.
But to make this arguement? I need proof. A list of noteworthy Alabamians who have an impact on the world.
A Google seach on the Internet gave me this info:
Byron Green 2007 Alabama Idol Winner from Huntsville.
Everyone knows this guy. Well actually not everyone. The folks I know of in Alabama didn't have a clue who he is but apparently he's famous.
Taylor Hicks 200? American Idol Winner
Sigh, I like Taylor Hicks as a singer but sheesh did he have to do it that way?
Don't get me started. He does have a good voice and he did parley the "Doofus School of Dance" lessons into big bucks and a stellar music career.
(Well at least the folks in Alabama know who he is.)
Vonetta Flowers 2002 Olympic medalist
Real live famous person who deserves it.
Condoleezza Rice Secretary of State United States
Okay so you're a Liberal Democrat and can't stand the woman. You've got to admit the woman is famous and all the Republicans thought she was "peachy keen".
Bobby Jon Drinkard Survivors : Palau
Okay I don't have a clue on this guy but since Survivor has the American Idol type ratings? I'm thinking he's famous. At least he didn't have to walk around naked inorder to get noticed.
And to my knowledge, Bobby Jon paid his taxes.
Judge Roy Moore 10 Commandments in the Alabama State Supreme Court building
Well you'd have to have lived under a rock or be completely disinterested in First Ammendment battles to not know this guy.
FYI He ran for (and lost) the race for Republican nominee for Governor of Alabama this year. (Again).
Mother Angelica
I think she's the nice lady on cable who does the art lessons.
Helen Keller
"That deaf, dumb, and blind..." girl "...sure played a mean pinball." Okay that's not right. Helen Keller was the subject of that movie that had Patty Duke in it.
Hank Aaron
Baseball, people, baseball. How can you not know who Hank Aaron is?
Alabama (the country music group not the state)
Famous country music group who put hard work and Ft. Payne, Alabama on the map. You should check out their song, "Hello America" on Youtube.
No wait. I'll do it.
Think the economy when you listen to it. Alabamiams weren't big fans of outsourcing jobs. We were saying, "Thanks, ya'll."
Bobby Denton
Appeared on Dick Clark and then went on to become an Alabama Senator.
Enough said.
Brett Butler, Actress
She was on ABC's Grace Underfire which was a very good show until they canceled it.
Kind of like Ugly Betty.
Then again maybe not.
Lots of folks thought that Ugly Betty went into the crapper during Season 2 and didn't start to come back until season 4 when ABC canceled it. Grace Under Fire didn't have that problem. It was just canceled. Period.
Nat King Cole singer
Unforgetable.
His daughter? Natalie Cole. Unforgetable (redeux)
Gail Patrick
Producer of the Perry Mason Show . I loved Perry Mason reference during the 2000 Florida Recount trial.
Too bad it didn't work.
Dr. Mae Jemison (first African American female to fly in space)
Okay this is another real live famous person. No joke.
Kate Jackson (original Charlie's Angels lead on Scarecrow and Mrs King)
She was the black haired one who didn't go on to produce of line of women's clothing for KMart.
Dean Jones (actor and lead in the films That Darn Cat and The Love Bug.)
Dean Jones was the "Justin Beiber's older brother" type actor for Walt Disney.
Wille Mayes Baseball player
(aw, come on, please tell me that you know who Willie Mae's is. If you don't that would be just wrong and un American.)
Jim Nabors Actor (Gomer Pyle on Andy Griffith and Gomer Pyle show.)
No, he was not stupid. He just played stupid on tv.
Jesse Owen Olympic Champion
And the guy you see in the history class films when studing WWII. He's the one who told Hitler to fck off. At least I think he is the one.
This is why God made Wiki.
Look it up.
Satchel Paige Baseball player
"best arm in baseball" They've written songs about this guy for heaven's sake.
Do I have to do everything? Once again, look it up.
Paula Poundstone (seriously? I didn't know that she was from Alabama.) Commedian
Percy Sledge Singer "Wheeen a maaaaaannn loves a woommamaaannn. Cain't think of nothin' else." Yeah that guy.
The Commodores and well that other guy whose daughter used to be BFF with Paris Hilton. Lionel Richie.
Tammy Wynette First Lady of Country Music
The woman who sang that song "Stand By Your Man". You know the one that goes "...Sometimes It's Hard to be a Woman..." Lyle Lovett covered it later. Lyle Lovett is not from Alabama. I know this because there's no way any self respecting male-type Alabamian is gonna seriously cover this song.
You don't do that to the First Lady of Country Music's theme song.
I think he's actually from Texas.
Must be a transplant because guys from Texas are pretty much like the guys from Alabama.
Unless they're Lyle Lovett.
Or from Austin.
Hank Williams very famous country singer.
Everybody knows of Hank Williams. Even folks who can't stand country music know who Hank Williams was. He's like Willie Nelson. Only more famous.
Well this is just from one web page.
Just heard a well informed source tell me that there's a statue in Alabama of a guy who's supposed to be the Father of Gynocology. We're not sure if he's from Alabama or moved here. There's an urban legend that there's a public building in Birmingham, Alabama with swastica (Did I spell that right?)on it. And then there's Truman Copote and that lady author who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird to look up.
Actually? I've got a real live, native born Alabamiam who's read this post and is listing all the folks from Alabama whose work has helped folks through out the world.
No kidding.
Got more reasearch to do.
Wikipedia here I come.

Honestly as funny as Conan OBrien can be? The 2 night show stent wasn't as good as the Late Night show.
Sympathy "sex" can be just ugg.
My vote?
Tv's Craig Ferguson on the LateLate Show. Best acting, writing, and direction for a commedy music variety series. Especially for writing.
Maybe it is time he got to go on cable.

Hmmm....I feel another story coming on....
"Come dancing..."
Writing 2night
Stay tuned
The next morning you come out of lust's undertow and...
I did it. I did it. I did it.
Unlike the sad story in the songs?
I got to put feet in the most beautiful water on Earth.
I got my water from the Gulf to christen the boat.
I got to spend time on one of the most beautiful beaches on Earth.
It's been such a long time.
"She bitch slapped me
Then she drew me through the undertow.
Spit me out on a beach somewhere
I was dazed and sore
From her embrace
Yet all I could say was "...more..."
Her eyes they are green like the water I've seen
Of the coast of a Florida shore.
And her hair it hangs tangled
Like seaweed
She's like sugar mixed with sand
She scratches you on the way down
And smells of coconut rum
This one bites you
And that bite will delight you
As she walks long the shore in the sun
But never forget that the sweet that awaits you
Will scrape you and burn you my son.
You'll drink her all up
And she'll make you drunk
Then you'll throw up
The worst of her fun
But the drink will make hazey
The worst of the memory
And all you'll have left is the fun.

Okay I've started writing this and will let it settle for later edit. Going outside to do some stuff and enjoy the sunshine.
But there is something for you to think about.
I don't have to be miserable to write. The best that comes from here is when I'm happily telling stories.
And I have my daily dose of beach and sex.

LOL
"You can go to hell in a hand basket..."
I don't know what that means either. If I could draw a picture of it. Put it in a frame in a 5x7 photograph? What does it look like? Forget putting it in black and white with the image clear. You can't put this feeling in a blurry color photo. It's just too vague to define it.
I want to go home.
Yup.
This isn't about growing up and facing the fact that life and places change. Sure they do. This is about preserving a way of life when it is possible to do so.
The Red Neck beaches of Alabama, north Florida, and Mississippi are having worse trouble than BP oil slicks. Slowly they're being turned into places that the average person can't afford. With discount hotel prices hovering at 300 dollars a night, most folks can't go. The places of my youth where the "puppies of Yuppies" could mix it up with the farmer's kids in Panama City are being replaced with luxury condos that most folks here could only see if they were cleaning the toilets.
I'm glad that I have my boat and a little "jingle in my pocket". Glad that I've seen the luxury condos from the guests view and the otherside. Same for people.
Those folks who clean toilets are people. Same as the folks who poop in them. Those beaches don't care what's in your wallet long as you don't litter on them. Take care of them and they'll love you forever.
Thing is there's plenty of places those luxury condo people can go take a crap but not so many places that a farmer's son can go steal a first kiss on the beach. Maybe that's what Mother Nature is trying to say.
Dunno.
We'll see.
There's a free concert down at the end of Highway 59 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It's close to the Pink Pony (LOL yeah I do know.) Down by the entrance to the public beach. Jimmy Buffet is playing. 35,000 tickets evaporated in 10 minutes. It's supposed to be a free concert but good luck getting a ticket. I hear there are tickets still available if you rent one of those luxury condos. The concert is supposed to get the local's minds off the oil spill and help boost business.
We'll see on that too.
That's not being mean. It's just saying that the concert's been posponed once because of Huricane Alex. Mother Nature's not a woman to be messed with.
Maybe she's a Parrot heat. Might better find her front row seats to this thing.
Wouldn't want to pizz her off.
"Sea of heart break..."
There's just something ironic and funny about...
"I'm perfect in every way until I screw up. Then too bad. Too sad."

"I'm shipping off to Boston. woah oh oh... "
LOL There should be another holiday...
How about "Happy Day After the Holiday That We Get Off Because The Holiday Comes on The Weekend" Day.
I'm okay with it.
So I got to go to the beach yesterday. The beach, which we were told in the news was gonna be nasty from BP oil, was beautiful. The water was clear and the beach was clean. I'm thinking that it's not a Potemkin Village moment so -- weeelll-- who knows..
It was nice though. I love the beach and was grateful to see it.
LOL The machine just got disconected.
Guess I was supposed to say how terrible and awful the water was. Thing is? From what I saw? To say terrible and ugly would mean I'd have to lie.
Not gonna do that.
Mr. Music please ...
Happy July 5 th otherwise known in this household as
""Happy Day After the Holiday That We Get Off Because The Holiday Comes on The Weekend" Day"

I'm sitting here in a towel and a tshirt. That's it. My hair is a mess from salt water and wind. The day was beautiful. The place for sailboats fantastic. Yet here I sit crazed.
My phone isn't working.
I put a spell on you you stupid phone.
Please start working again.

Discomfort
First I'm going to post something here. It's from something I wrote on another blog awhile back. Maybe it could explain a bit. Turn a river. Prevent someone from feeling uncomfortable in their life choices.
It's about the first time I laughed. After my son died.
And some days? Aren’t.
“…One day at a time is the best way to deal with this. And trust me there are going to be good days as well as bad ones. I still remember the first time I really laughed after my family member died. First I laughed out loud and then I stopped in a kind of shocked silence. It felt so good to be happy after being sad for so long. After that I began to look out side of my grief at the world. Still had the bad days but there were good ones too. Now more good than bad…”
I was writing to someone who'd lost a loved one. It's so hard. This week I talked to yet another person who'd lost someone close to them. She had the same experience that I did. So did her mom. There is that moment when enough time has passed that you laugh. Then in some cruel mean thing the second after that laugh you feel this tremendous guilt for being happy. How can you be happy after someone you'd loved so much has experienced such pain. You should always feel that pain too.
You shouldn't but the thing is that a person at that stage of grief is in pain.
As time passes, months for some and years for others, the pain or your reaction to it changes. You do forget but you come to realize that to make yourself feel so sad as a kind of punishment for surviving isn't right. You begin to see that being happy and going on with your life is really a good thing. For me that laughter took a while to change from a blue to a delightful yellow. It just takes time.
I watch Craig Ferguson for a reason. You see for some unknown reason he was the person who got me to laugh. The very first time that I saw his show and he told a joke, I laughed. Since then I've begun a kind of self directed laugh "therapy". It's worked. I've begun to "color". Life that had been black and white became like those old technicolor movies. Oh, it took a while for the unhappy to fade but it did. Then last year when I got to go see water again I felt joy. The old joy came back. Like a seed it grew. Happy. It started with that very first laugh.
(I'm sorry for the sentence fragments but it seems like a good idea to leave them be.)
I used to have a writing buddy. She once was in the process of writing a story when I asked her not to kill off the main characters. It was a beautiful story but I'd read enough of her stories to know that the ending probably would be all kinds of uncomfortable. After I asked she told me not to analyze the story but to feel and enjoy it just where it was and each minute until it's conculsion. She told me that to understand the story I needed to feel it. If I analyzed it I'd have to break it into pieces. That would tear the story and the viseral feeling. Now I think that is how my life is. I don't want to analyze it because it's taken me so long to get where I can feel it again. Happy. Sad. Joy or sorrow are in perspective. Nolonger colored by the pain of losing my son.
LOL
A kids song from my Sunday School days.
"I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Down in my heart. Down in my heart."
It feels pretty good.
I know that these last couple of posts have seemed odd and out of character. This is truly ironic. My writing and blogs is me being a writer. In order to learn to create believeable characters, the "I" of the writer, the id, must be secondary to the story. True there is the writer's voice but that's just the house of words where the characters live. It is ironic because these "uncharacteristic" blog posts are actually very characteristic of the real me. If I had this "life"? I'd be exhausted.
LOL I'm not broken. It's the opposite. I've been healing. Gently. Trying to laugh every day. The laughter feels very very good. It's made me appreciate the happy. You know like the morning after a storm when it's sunny. Everyone is safe.
Happy.
Hugs,
Ann
PS Now I'll go back to writing this character who I have great affection for.

Yep, that'll do.
Happy holiday.
While we're still able ...
I'd tell you about my day but really do you want to hear about it?
How about the tshirt look on Craig Ferguson?
So this morning I woke up from a dream. I was dreaming about Jimmy Fallon and that I lost a tooth. Then I got up. Went to do my business and guess what? I went back to bed. Because it was 5am when I did this and it looked like rain.
This morning I asked someone if they wanted to go to the big BBQ do at the sailclub.
They said yes.
So I guess this 4th I'll celebrate on the 3rd by eating chicken. LOL
Hope you have a great day.

PS. The tshirt look on Craig Ferguson? Nice. Take a look.

Uh oh. So I was just minding my own business when..
All I said was that being able to say the word, "no", was an important life skill. Unfortunately they left out the importance of knowing who NOT to say no too on my "Taking Back You" life empowering tape. No one told me that folks might say "no" back. Now there are some folks who are no longer talking to me. I'm sure that information is making them shiver with happy.
I don't care.
:P
NO
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna' dance around my yard in my boxers yellin' the word "no" over and over at the top of my lungs. Only wish that I could do it in slow motion through the water sprinklers. Yeeehaaawww.
Think anyone will notice?

I live out in the country. In the afternoon, when it's hot like this, we've been known to get in the truck, roll down the windows, and just drive. You say you're going to the Dollar General to get a soda but you might end up at some hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere.
It's all just an excuse.
If we're lucky you get good reception on the radio. The one in the truck is on it's last legs. Lots of ducktape involved. Tuner nob is bent. That's a puzzle. If I was younger and a bit more athletic I could blame it on a Saturday night. I don't think I will. Truth is, like much of my life, I just don't know.
At least the music is good. :D

Rachel's Luck
"...They could hear folks gasp. The organist muttered, "Well that's one way to look at "till death do you part." It only took a second to put the handcuffs on his wrist and then hers. He was startled and then he was laughing and she was laughing. It was the only sound they heard in the church. She took the key from her glove and undid the lock to his side of the cuffs. As she did, she said the words soft and then loud so everyone could hear, "I release you from the obligations of marriage and instead give you it's joy and freedom to share life with me." Then she handed him the keys. Still no sound from the congregation. At first she thought he'd leave her side of handcuffs locked, but he said the words too and then added, "I love you."
He kissed her before the preacher got the words, "You may kiss-" out of his mouth.
Later, alot later, she'd tell her brother that marriage had liberated her. For the first time, she trusted someone not to leave. She trusted him to be honest even if they were miles apart ..."

(Note: before ANYONE jumps to conclusion. I don't write fan fic. I do, however, write fiction.)
...apart
Again.
"You know if you didn't love me why in hell did you marry me in the first place." He was really sick of the way this dragged on and on and on - he was about to tune her out when he heard the words, "...fairly good orgasm."
"What did you say?"
"I said, I thought that I loved you but it was sex. Just sex and a fairly good orgasm."
That startled him enough to get his attention.
He let go of her hand. "Good." she said it out loud but soft. It was enough. At least she had his attention. If she could get him to listen maybe they could sort things out.
"Once upon a time..." she started the story and then he interrupted her. If she told it they'd never get to sleep. Maybe if he did it right she'd fall asleep or get in the mood. That wasn't a bad thing either.
"I'll tell it. You leave things out."
He looked at her. She was asleep.
"Good." he thought, " Anything to get her off the subject ...."

...the subject...
He watched her sleep. Jiggled her to make sure. She wasn't a sound sleeper so moving her was a risk but he tried and she didn't wake up. It was safe. That was the moment he decided to call Rachel and all the trouble began. There were moments in all this that were clear now. The times when he messed up. For the life of him he couldn't guess why he did this kind of thing but he did. This time it'd turned into a real mess.

Livin' the dream...
As many of you know by now, I've been kind of disinherited by my folks. They've kind of informed me that perhaps I might need to suppliment my income with -- a job.
Their suggestions?
Doing yard work. Working in the restaurant. Pool person.
Pool person?
"snert"
I'm unfortunately over qualified for these jobs.
I'm a writer. I've got a friggin' college degree.
I was worried.
Then? I talked to my friend that sells mild mannered milk goats.
I can follow this dream of being a "couch anchor", goat herder. But still there was so much self doubt.
So I talked to my friend the musician..
She's not afraid to follow her dream...
Be strong, Goat Herder Boy. Be strong and follow your dream of writing a successful blog about raising organic happy goats and making artisanal goat cheese for you parent's yuppy foodie friends..."

Diary of Goatherder Boy...
Day one:
Contemplated belly button lint.
Found new species of mold.
Thus sayeth The Goat Herder Boy.
This day 25 April, 2010
Sayeth his long suffering parents?
"It's gonna be a long summer."
Our son.
The one who has his college paid for.
The one who has a plot of land all paid for that will someday be his.
The one who is at this second practicing being a "couch anchor".
Is going to be a goat herder.
No scratch that.
He wants to be a fish wrangler.
That's his diary up there.
I want him to keep a diary of this year.
That's day one.
His father and I are going to be supportive. We're gonna buy hims a 39 dollar tent and put him out on his parcel of land. We're also giving him a sleeping bag, bottled water, ice chest, and a flash light.
Don't worry. He'll also get 20 dollars a week allowance and he's right next door to us.
If he's lucky he'll get to look at the car and can come eat supper with us.
I'm secretly hoping that this really is a phase.
My stomach hurts.
I woke up craving this song...
Uh not exactly.
This morning I woke up from a dream about having sex with someone I'm currently NOT talking to. We've never (incase you're wondering). Could have but didn't. Probably a good idea. Then I laid in bed paralyzed because of this question, "What if I can't anymore? What if the sum total of my sexual experiences were already over?"
Then I craved the song.
"..Bernadette..."
LOL "Rosebud. Rosebud."

Therapy...
All these dreams and my friend's dream analysis has got me thinking.
Dreaming of having sex with men with rattlesnake penises is pretty creative.
Heck, I'm a writer.
I've got a great imagination.
Just think of all the stuff I could make up.
LOL, If I had a therapist? They would not be bored.
Come to think of it neither would I.

I had another dream...

This time I dreamed I had sex.
I think I'm gonna tell my friend that I had sex with men who had rattlesnake penises.
Can't wait to hear what they have to say about it.

Dream lover...
A while back I dreamed about rattle snakes.
As soon as I woke up, I told someone about it.
Later they told me that it mean I had "...unresolved issues...".
I told them that it was spring and I had "...rattle snakes in heat..." issues.
(Where we live the rattlesnakes are emerging from their dens. They're sleepy, hungry, horney, and basically pizzed. You see rattlesnakes crossing the road all the time. I have yard work to do. Nothing unresolved about it.)
My friend insisted that I was wrong and that my subconscious was trying to tell me something.
I thought about it and started to tell them, "Why yes, you are correct. Everynight as I go to sleep watching Craig Ferguson and his rattlesnake mug my subconscious is in an epic battle of desire. Now shut up and lets go get coffee."
Then I thought about it some more and invited them to run barefoot through my back yard.

She doesn't fart like a fog horn.
She poofs like the tiny little lady dog.
Then she looks up at me like she's saying,
"They that smelt it dealt it."

Dear Craig,
My dog Izzy is farty.
I wrote to Craig Ferguson for help and advice about this because his own dog is farty. Well and it would cost me 90 bucks to have the vet tell me, "Yes, your dog is farty."
Wonder if he'll write back?
Craig not his farty dog.

As you read in the last post, I'm in a real pickle.
On the one hand I want a Twitter account and on the other hand I don't want to tell folks my birthday.
Then it came to me.
If Conan O'Brien could get his squirrel a Twitter account, I could get one for my dog Izzy.
Hurray.
Problem solved and no longer bored.
Written @
I'm bored ...
... and conflicted.
You see I want to get a Twitter account but I don't want to tell my real birthday.
What do I do?
Do I make stuff up?
OR
Do I tell the truth and risk being hacked.
This is a really difficult decision.
On the one hand I don't want to lie to people
but on the other hand I really want a Twitter account.
Does it count as a lie if your first tweet is.
"Dear Twitter, That's not my real birthday. I made it up. Love, Conflicted"
I'm not trying to deceive anyone and I would be telling them the truth.
Besides they just want to know if I'm 12 or not.
Which I'm not.
Lemmie think.
Hmm

It's a wonderful world...
Funny but lately my personal life has been really, really good.
For a loooongg time my life was boring.
Really boring.
My love live didn't exist.
All I did was study, work, and basically try not to get eatten by the "TRexes" in my life. No one wanted to know who I was.
It was really sad.
Then one day a miracle happened. I got a blog and a whole lot of people paid attention. My love life improved drastically. Lots of people wanted to know me.
Unfortunately.
So if someone wants to know if it's better to be rich or be famous?
Go for the rich.
The famous is just too much work.

When you walk into the Montgomery Museum of Art, not too far up the road from Pink Lily, you will see magic set free. There is Mr. Lucas. Well not actually Mr. Lucas but his self and his stories made from the bits and pieces of everyday life. The car part. The end of a hoe. Something from a tractor. Long strips of steel bent and shaped into the pieces of a story.
This book is his story.
A beautiful and informative book. Comprehensive look at the work of Charlie Lucas, sculptor. Pink Lily, Alabama.

Holy cow NOW I get it
Last night's guests were both authors.
From The Day I Shot Cupid. Hello my name is Jennifer Love Hewitt And I'm a Love aholic"
page 18.
"...So be strong, have personal power - good God, roar if you have to! But a couple of nights a week try letting it be all about your undergarment and on top put a dress, perfume, some sparkle powder, and a little willingness to let him lead."
To Mr. Neville's book, "Ghosts of Belfast"
pg 1
"Maybe if he had one more drink they'd leave him alone. Gerry Fegan told himself that lie before every swallow...."
I'm thinking that the only thing missing was the skit where the Ghost Whisper character is at the bar with the fictional Mr. Fegan and she sees those 12 Ghosts of Belfast as well. "I see dead people too so stop yer drinkin' Mr. Fegan." she would say. She could have interceeded for Mr Fegan, done alittle Freudian psycho analysis, and sent those 12 ghosts packing without all that extra drama. Afterwards the real Ms. Hewitt and Mr. Neville could have gone out to a pub both in sparkly powder and really good shoes. As a matter of fact, if Mr. Neville didn't already have a girl friend? I'd think this would make a most interesting couple.
Sigh, I really love to watch this show. It's getting better and better in the irony department. Or maybe in the parody department. Which ever it is it's not boring.

Review for Annie's book
You know that feeling of dread that comes when a new author utters the words, "Would you read this?" There's a knot that you feel forming in your stomach when you hear the words "historical novel". You're pretty sure that it's either going to be "dry as dirt" or so "flowery" it should be in romance novels with fake Fabios on the cover.
That's not this book.
This book is actually interesting. There are no tedious moments to skim though nor are there "high drama" or "soap box" moments to endure. This book is a good fictional story based on real world events.
Enjoyed the book. Would recommend it to others.
I love Jennifer.
Well he doesn't actually think he's in love with her. He just collects her photos and puts them on his computer. To him she's just the brightest light in the sky.
I'm ranting this morning. I turned on Youtube so that I could watch tv's Craig Ferguson's interview with Stewart Neville and what happens. They have the interview with the Jennifer Love Whozits but not with the author of the Ghosts of Belfast, Stewart Neville.
There aren't words.
Well there are.
Here's Jennifer (squee) Love Whozits in her own words:
From her book " The Day I Shot Cupid. Hello My Name is Jennifer Love Hewitt and I Am a Love aholic"
page 18.
"...So be strong, have personal power - good God, roar if you have to! But a couple of nights a week try letting it be all about your undergarment and on top put a dress, perfume, some sparkle powder, and a little willingness to let him lead."
And here are the words from writer Stewart Neville:
Unfortunately, Stewart Neville's interview isn't here. He can't rock a pair of pink stilettos. Otherwise, I'm sure that his interview would up on Youtube already right here next to the extra ordinary writer, Jen.
Sporting sparkle powder and pink stilettos.

12:55:00 PM Uh oh... got a phone call from the not so magical neighbors...
Just got off the phone with Ms. Whoozits. She's "...miffed..." because my dogs went and peed in her flower bed. Apparently Vista View has some rule in the home owners and dogs visiting the neighbors is a no no . I told her that I couldn't see how such tiny dogs could have enough urine to kill off her whole flower bed. I told her that if my dogs did pee in her yard? They peed gold and pooped flowers so I should charge her a landscaping fee.
"If they could kill flowers?" I told her, "our yard would look like crap."
Then I told her that her complaint was the very definition of the word "hyperbole".
To which she said something not very "Vista View" about the state of our yard.
So I hung up on her.

I just set my brand new, fake Starbuck,s reusable coffee cup on the floor for one second. One second. It was clean.
The friggin dog just licked it.
Therefore I had to wash it once again in the dishwasher. Another whole 2 hours so it can be on the sani cycle. The only item in the whole dishwasher because for once it was empty. Yes Rosie has licked me on the mouth. So what. That's not the point. You know that. Doggie kisses are sanitary. Dogs licking the brand new, fake Starbucks, re-useable coffee cup are not.
Require sanitation because I have standards.
No I could not wait until the dishwasher was full. No I could not wait until after breakfast. I'm taking it to the soccer game this afternoon and I need it now.
And no I'm not washing it in the sink.
This requires sanitation. I have standards.
For God's sake could you please stop yelling? What's wrong with you?
Oh and my gym shorts are dirty. Can you be a love and throw them in the wash?

11:47:00 AM We're fighting over who takes the dog to the vet...
I even spent 30 days doctoring a chicken. That would include convincing the vet that he was indeed a chicken doctor. Then every day I had to take that unhappy chicken into my clean bath room. I had to wash it's chicken foot. I had to put medicine on it's chicken foot. I had to rebandage that chicken foot. All by myself. Not fun.
Now I'm being called a fuck up by the same people who won't take the dog to the vet.
Meanwhile Buffy is sitting there looking at us and I'm pretty sure thinking, "Could you guys get some marriage counseling. No wait first take me to the vet and then...."
There are words being said. Something about how I spend all day at the house writing when other folks have real jobs.
Good thing I like Buffy otherwise this could get ugly.
11:41:00 AM Freud vs The Dog Whisper (cont)
Maybe this will help.
I dreamed of the man of my dreams and then kissed Izzy.
You figure it out.
(and then if you would could tell me???)

11:35:00 AM Freud vs The Dog Whisperer...
We folks I'm really worried.
Izzy (honest to God that's her real name) is bi curious.
She's been trying to have sex with her sister for the past year. I blame it on the fact that we fixed her too early. She doesn't know what she is.
11:25:00 AM Get a clue
Before trying to rock your y's it's a REALLY good idea to hit the gym first.
Second thought.
Hit the gym alot.
Just sayin.
11:08:00 AM On the other hand...
It might get you on reality tv.
My friend Buck and his ex third wife had a hella fight in the front of their condo last June. Seems it was the same time that Cops was filming down the street. Some drug king pin got busted. Anyway they were yellin about stuff and she ran outside. Out he goes after her in a pair of yfronts. Next thing ya' know they're the lead story on the Cops show AND the entertainment for the Sea Harbor Marina Neigborhood Association meeting. The only sex those women get is the buzz from watching Craig Ferguson so they were "...entralled..." to see neigbhor Buck in his y fronts. Over and over and over ---
So maybe there's times when flashing alittle (ex) marital disharmony in the front yard is a good thing. Buck gets all kinds of notice and I hear Cops pays scale.
"...bad boys, bad boys whatcha gonna doooo..."

11:01:00 AM I'm thinking that this isn't working out well...
Here's a life hint.
It's not a good idea to go running out in the front yard wearing your boxer shorts and tshirt. Even if they are new. It looks tacky and the people @ the next Vista View Neighborhood Watch meeting might talk.
That would just pizz them off even more.
Not a good idea.
LOL 10:57 AM
I'm sorry if you think that this is mean. I'm just too preoccupied with all the stuff they've left for me to do so that they can go sun their butt on spring break.
:P
Lemmie think.. It happened just before Easter break...
The person I just had words with just stomped off leaving me once again with all the stuff here. I'm not sure but I think it's because I pointed out that proof reading a letter isn't the same as what an actual editor does.
You know if it had been me? I'd a been flattered that a writer asked my opinon of something they'd written.
Jerk.
And the next day...Well kinda'. I'm behind in my blog updates...
There is good news people.
I love Easter break.
The candy is good. I've been writing. And the dog didn't die.
Well mostly the candy is good. This one piece tastes like it's got weevals in it. Thing is it's free and it's chocolate. So I'm suffering through it.
Crunch. Crunch.
Sorry that it took so long...March Madness
Writing? Oh no.
That would be productive. Nope. I've been busy co-existing with my world which at the moment is throwing one hella' temper tandrum.
Need to cheer up.
"...I was dreaming one early morning that I heard snoring. In my dream, the snoring came from a handsome fella so I did what any self respecting woman would do. I rolled over and puckered up. After all, this man in my dreams was a real looker. I wasn't about to miss the chance. Puckered up and kissed this man of my dreams right on his face. Then I opened my eyes hoping that it wasn't a dream.
It would seem that the man of my dreams is a real dog.
I'd kissed my dog.
(More later. Maybe pictures.)
Sigh
